Unknown unit badge for Gebirgsjäger cap

Has everybody ever seen such a unit badge? The seller said it was on a Gegirgsjäger cap behind the Edelweiß
The badge is 20mm in diameter

Thorsten, it is a unit symbol for a GJ unit, but I confess I am not certain which unit, or whether it was for a regiment or a division...

It's the divisional insignia of the 5 Gebirgs Division. i've not seen it in button form like this only as a stick pin

Here's the tactical symbol for 5 Gebirgs Division, as it would appear on their vehicles !

Very nice cap Glenn! But mine badge is quite different from yours. Is mine a known variation of this badge?

Was it really worn on the Bergmütze?

I would think there would be several variations of this tradition badge. As mentioned, the one you posted looks more like a button.

There are several period photos of tradition badges being worn on all types of hat's.

Has anybody a picture of my badge in wear or mounted on a GJ cap?

Would really love to see it.

                      Regards

                        Grüß Gott Thorsten und Gebirglers,

That's an interesting "Gams" button. The typical unit badge worn by members of the 5. Gebirgsdivision is usually like the one the cap that Glenn posted. I've not seen one like this. Perhaps your button was actually used as buttons on the front of a Bergmütze? Here's a photo of a Gebirgsjäger from the 1. Gebirgsdivision with Edelweiss buttons on his Bergmütze:

Here's one of my Bergmützen with an EISMEERSTRASSE badge on it. The badge is a screw back type:

                        HURRA DIE GAMS!
