Lets see a pic showing a close up of the lining (need to see the weave) and a shot of the air hole grommet. Who said the piping is hard to find/replace? Are you crazy? Rebuilt generals are EVERYWHERE!

I say Franky as well. Yes lets see the Grommet please.

For me it was the plastic shield that told me right away it was bad before I looked at the rest of the cap

From these pics, the transplanted original parts look to be the sweatband and visor.

Well okay, at least we now have some ‘observations’ made on which to ponder.

It’s alleged the “vented cockade doesn’t ‘seem to be’ orignial.” I’m not sure what constitutes “seem to be” so I’m hoping to be enlighten. Looks pretty damn similar to both my vented eReLs so I’m missing something.

Gebirgsjäger points out the cap “has a plastic sweatshield” but I’m going to make a wild assed assumption that Damianthedog (great name by the way) has enough of a clue to ID a “plastic” sweatdiamond versus original period material and would’ve noted the concern had he seen it. Since that’s not the case I’m (again) assuming that any appearance of being “plastic” is the lighting in the photo. We all know lighting is notorious in making materials appear different than in real life. I’m sure Damianthedog will clear up this concern promptly.

Kreager believes the transplanted original parts look to be the sweatband and visor. Good observations but I’m not catching what signs of ‘post war’ modifications you’re seeing. Got anyway to tweak these images to show us what you’re seeing? As Greywolf questions where are the signs of “trace or strange stitching”?

As for pleats, I know the purists like to see them all going in the same direction, especially on an eReL but let’s face it, this could be a result of mishandling of the cap (reefing on the lining and stuffing it back in for instance) and we’ve all seen other caps with pleats going every which way. I would be more concerned with obvious signs of ‘post war’ manipulation that Kreager is implying. I too would welcome more photos and detail.

                          Rick C.

For what it's worth, I don't see much in the photos to worry me, that's if the sweatshield is cello of course and it's just the photo that's missleading as Rick has pointed out.
What does worry me is the knowledge of all the dodgy erel generals visors out there and so a detailed examination would be a must on this one.

I concur - more examination is warranted BEFORE casting about unsound or, at least, unsubstantiated claims of "fake" or implying it's been screwed around with. While I don't have a dog in this hunt it just bugs me that all kinds of doubt can be thrown on a cap/item from a very limited number of photos.

If it's in Damianthedog's hands hopefully he can provide some more photos. Based on what's been presented it's unsound to trash, with a few one liners, a $5000+ cap/investment on a couple of blurry photos.

Hello Rick ,maybe I I'm missing something.
Can you show me a pic of your 2 vented erels coccade?
                                Thanks
