Also, aside from the "crush" what were some of the more popular ways soldiers personalized these caps in the field?

Please, can you explain a little more your opinion?

I have to add that here we have accepted an enormous range of them, from the upscaled true Feldmutzen Alter Art with the addition of chincord, side-buttons and embroidered or metal devices to the downscaled true Schirmmutzen with the removal of all and the addition of BeVo hand or machine-stitched insignia, until the mixed fry of BeVo/metal/embroidered badges, maybe even with the addition of some traditional badge (a skull is always good and very trendly ...)

Father, son or brother ? Because the tropical caps are marked Karl Naubert of Erfurt,

It is said that HNE was vormals = formerly belonging to a certain Karl, probably a very close relative.

What follows is my attempt to obtain a bit of clarity about this dynasty of headdress’ manufacturers:

From the 1890 Erfurt adressbuch we have a Wilhelm N., kurschner in Mainzerhofplatz 1:

From the 1904 Erfurt adressbuch we still have a Wilhelm N., fabrication von military u. beamten mutzen, but in Bruhlerstr. 60. No Karl, Hermann and so on:

Hi Buddy!

I say "strange" because I can't recall ever seeing that particular shade of green on the underside of a TR visor. Especially when it is so at odds with the shade of green of the lining fabric. And the leather itself is very thick for a crusher visor. Also, the sweatband leather is more like that of an SS crusher (or schirmutze), IMO, than on a Heer crusher.

No biggie! I like the looks of your cap, and think it is good. I see no cause for alarm in the pictures provided.

I agree with you. The parts you are actually highlighting are unusual and infrequent.

It would be helpful to see the outer sides and, as always, to have a look, with the raised sweatband, to the seams of the lining and, above all, to the cardboard.
