In my opinion that is artillary. Here is a comparison of waffenfarbe, the top being arty, left bottom nebelwerfer and right bottom gen staff. Jacques

I seen this cap not long ago. IMHO it is in fact smoke troops. I have seen smoke waffenfarbe range anywhere from a wine red to a burgundy almost purple. The cap is named and it does check out on the reg list to a smoke officer. The piping is too dark for arty and not pink enough for general staff. IMO the cap is right as rain. I like it.

Colour is the correct nebelwerfer one.

It just looks a bit strange on the photo without a reference.

Presume it is correct and discuss the cap.

        All the best

I like the hat so much,it's an original unmolested Erel, but I'm not sure about the color piping.I suggest to have a pic side by side with an artillery hat

I looked at photos that are not on the website, it falls into the range for Nebel waffenfarbe. The flash always does that to Nebel piping. Major Nick was with Nebel Abt. 1 in Poland and was assigned to the Gasschutzschule in Celle before and after that, Major Nick is in both the 38/39 and 1944 Ranglisten. Based on his assignment he was trained in decontamination etc. and gas defense which fell under Nebel waffenfarbe but is seperate from Werfer units.

This is an example of the flash problem with Nebel piping,

These are Nebel trousers but when shot with a flash they look red:

Same images after adjusting contrast and brightness levels in photoshop to reduce the flash effects and the correct color of the trousers.

When I use the same settings for the hat this is what happens:

When I do it to Jacques image it reduces the lighting effect in the original image the red remains red but the dark colors become darker.

Like I said, smoke How can you lose with a name like Nick too Some of you guys missed the big picture. Look at the cap top. That is a very, very rare material for Erel. I have seen Schellenberg use it but not Lubstein. It looks to be that rough canvas type.

Loose the flash, take the picture outside in natural light against a neutral light colour background and the waffenfarbe will be shown in all it's glory without using software effects.

I have just taken delivery of the Pekuro Nebel officer visor I showed a while back that had the same picture queries.

As soon as it stops raining here in the UK I will use my own advice above and take new pics and post them. The cap is a minter.

OK John, I have seen the light. Nick, The cap is in exactly the same fabric as my nebelwerfer, which is a Schellenburg. Jacques
