    just out of curiosity, why are these white top visor hats SO rare, when it looks like every NCO and officer had 1 pair.

      Very, very few SS officers obtained a white top cap for their use. Only a few pics of them being worn have survived...

        @Steinar

        This is a good question. Why are white top SS offcier caps so rare?
        Compare them with LW white top caps. LW caps are way often than SS white tops.
        It could be they was not so popular at the SS?

        Best,

            As Arran says, SS Allgemeine General Officers rarely had white issued uniforms and visors. There is very little photographic evidence remaining.

            This will be a name your price item due to the rank and rarity. There is one on loan at the Imperial War Museum that I have taken many photos of. It is incredible.

            Gents, this appears to be the real deal. Any red flags say you to the visor experts, esp Doug O, NTZ, Stonemint and Dr. Strangelove (no disrespect intended to anyone not mentioned. Anyones input is welcome of course!)

                Arran and SSTk

                Thanks for the info. I thought every NCO and all officers of the SS had a white uniform or two..since some had a white SS visor hat, did a white sidecap for the SS exist?

                  The price, while high, is in line with a visor of this rarity. The Hoffmann visor at the SOS was going for $55K, and although named to a prominent personality, was not a white-top, which, as NTZ says, is the Holy Grail of SS collecting. Not to be picky, but I would prefer one with a white wool top, so I will have to pass this one up.....

                    This is only the second waffle pattern I ever seen and I have yet to see a real wool/trikot white top. These babies are rare as hell. I will bet PaulS. Is loving that price though.

                      Dear Lord

                      SSTk, thanks for calling me an expert but I am not a Hat expert by any stretch of the imagination. I know enough about Hats to get into real trouble, it always takes NTZ and Stonemint to bail my a$$ out !!!

                        Gents thanks for the replies. Strangelove, me too!

                          Imagine a SS Generals white side cap, wouldn't that be something
                          Perhaps it didn't exist, but it sure makes sense to believe it existed since they had grey sidecaps for the grey uniform...

                            Other than KM and perhaps the '36 Olympics, I know of no other TR sidecap in white...
