    Customs Visor

I have just received this Customs set which i bought from Germany.

It consists of an officer visor (minus eagle), with bullion wreath, overcoat, 2 sets of collar tabs, award document, and three photos of the original owner.

I would appreciate some opinions on the visor, which has some interesting sewing. There is a line of sewing which is visible all the way round, under the lower piping/band

Also there seems to be some padding material under the sweatband which looks like modern material. Though i could be wrong.

The other parts of the set can be seen in the Police section of the forum

    Thanks

    lewis

The padding in front of the sweatband does not look like it was made when the cap was made. It does look period done though. My guess is the owner was sick of the poor feel/fit and had a cap maker add in the cloth in front to pad it. That would explain everything.

      Thanks NTZ.

What about the rest of the cap, do you see any red flags? What about the lower sewing all around the bottom of the centre band? Doesnt his tend to be hidden usually? Is this just poor tailoring?

The exposed stitching is from adding the material in front. No red flags that I can see. All period done IMHO.

              Thanks NTZ.

I think theres two things we are talking about here. There is a grey bit of felt behind the front of the sweatband. This is continues to the width of the visor.

However there is also a loose bit of material, the white stuff with black fibres in it, this is around the whole of the inside of the sweatband. Just seems to be padding(like you see with newspaper sometimes). This is the padding i thought looked like modern material.

Anywany, if everything looks fine, then thats good with me. I happy with this set. Nice condition, and a nice grouping.

              Thanks for the help guys.

I managed to get a nice customs eagle, and the cap looks great now

Putting the eagle on was a bit scarey, as it wasnt cheap, was just waiting for a pin to break. But luckily all went well.

                Here are some pics:

Is the gap in the lower center of the wreath typical or is something missing?

                    Interesting, didnt notice that before.

Theres nothing missing, just looks like they didn't go completely to the centre with the bullion leaf on that side.

Is this something to worry about?

Well, I didn't see many of the embroided wreathes. In the "Police & Civil Organizations Forum" you can find a thread about RFV/ Zollgrenzschutz insignia with nice items to compare.
I do not know if it is a bad sign - just wanted to mention this curiosity...
I like that cap very much, too.
