    White top Diplomatic visor

I had been in the market for a diplomatic visor, and couldn't resist this one.

I have to say I never seen one like it. It looks to be French made. Can you tell use any more about it? He sure was not a Botschafter very long. Looks like about 4 months and not summer months.

Not much more to tell. I knew that the white top version existed, but this is the first one I ever saw. I hadn't planned on making a big purchase today, but when I saw this cap, I fell in love with it. Once the Supreme Commander of my household (my wife) said to buy it if I liked it, I bought it.

I would agree it appears to be French made, but there are no markings for a maker in the cap.

I was kind of hoping for a vet purchase and the vet ransacked the mans Paris apartment and brought back his uniforms too story. Is the Adler sewn right into the cloth top?

Yes it's sewn directly into the top.

Actually, I can see from the pics (look at the side view) that the eagle is embroidered on a separate piece of cloth. This is a very interesting cap. For me, it would need a very close hands-on inspection as well as consultation with those familiar with French cap construction. Are there other French-made caps out there with this diamond quilted lining? It is beautiful, but certainly demands caution...I image it was very expensivo...

Interesting visor but I would be highly sceptical of it being attributed to "King" Otto. For such a high profile character, I'd expect to see a very, very high quality cap to match. Also, a typed name tag, especially with "Paris" on it as well doesn't ring true. Did he have a bad memory and needed a reminder of what city he was embassador to? Just my opinion.

I'm shure it is a high quality fake cap. Specially from the inside it looks like the same type repros which are sold my times on the auction of A.Thies or see also on Hueskens's website.
Also very typical for fakes is the type of cord and his slider. Also the long distance from the buttom to the silder.

It is every time used a machine type named labe.
I saw many high grade fakes of exactly and perfect the same type.

                      Best,

You have to be very careful with these--they were some of the best-faked caps in the mid-80s to the mid 90's during the "Diplo Rage" era. Most of these fakes are either unmarked, or marked to cottage makers. Also, most aren't even Frankys--a lot of them are ground-up repros. Abetz is a big name in TR-Frankreich history, and was no minor player. I would run this hat by a specialist for examination. Sounds like Gerard knows its history....

Big Sexy has confirmed to me that he did indeed buy the cap at Allentown, now he needs to stop payment on the check and post the name here of the person he bought it from. If this cap was real, it would be $20k or more even. I am not sure an original exists of this type, maybe one out there? I am sure it was at a sucker's price, let's say $5,000? I standard dark blue or field gray example, if real, is an easy 10k at the silver piping level! C'mon people, who is buying 5k hats and goes into it not knowing what they are buying or even researching the seller. Extremely foolish.
