I think it looks OK. Real rough though. Definitely looks used! Is the side flap torn or just folded down? Nicely marked inside. Price....? Mike.

A decent value is what I am trying to establish as well as a good description....

A bit more $$$ than that as its an earlier one WITH what appears to have honest right off the battle field dirt and grime still on it..also had a soutache which was period removed...JMHO Billbert

                        I agree with Billbert,
Certainly worth getting, and adding the missing cocade (properly for this maker). The missing soutache will be a period removal...
                        Mark.

In conversation with my friend, he stated the following.

The cap came from the collection of a woman that belonged to an American Legion hall. seems she took care of veterns mementos and that the old codgers would give her stuff to take care of for them, or to have someone to give their war trophies to. Now she too is gone and her nephew gave this to me. The pith helmet I bought off of a WWII vet who too was getting up in years and no longer needed his war booty.

Did a little bit more digging. There seems to be the remains of the end of the waffenfarbe on the inside of the seam in the appropriate place, looks like artillery red. Also found was some 'pink' thread ar the inside bottm of the rear seam. Anyway, pics attached.
