    Chaplain Visor Insignia

Threads on insignia are overdue, so I have decided to start one.
These sold on Ebay recently, so I cannot vouch for them:

          Possible for an overseas cap.

I have seen one photo of a early pre-war chaplain with this type of cross on his visor cap. It was the only photo I have seen of a small equal armed cross in wear on a visor (I wish I had kept the photo)

I have an overseas cap with this exact type of cross on it. The hat came directly from a flea market in Germany moons ago by a guy I really trust.

Otherwise, crosses like this area tough one. I would be interesed to take a really close look at the stamping process, as something like this would be easy to fake. On several other photos overseas caps, I have seen the regular gothic cross being worn--not this type.

Also, these have popped up on ebay the past few years, one even supposidly in gold for a Field Bishop. Now I doubt either would wear this, and the Marinedekan wouldnt wear this style at all. It made me wonder if it was an original painted gold--or someone made a dye and began reproducing crosses--I think the latter is more probable.

This cross does not conform to early 20s to 1930 caps. The photos of those caps show the WWI "fat" cross being worn. So to say this is an early pre III Reich cross is not true. The early ones had an enamel white center rather than a stamped metal outline.

The only reson I believe these type crosses exist, is because of the visor cap photo. I do believe they are reproducing them now though. I will try to get some photos of mine.

            Chris,

I believe this is a KM Chaplains Visor Hat Wreath.

Brian Maederer owns the most astonishing Bishops frock coat and visor. Each time that I ask him to part with it the answer is something similar to "frock you".The hat, with gold cross is amazing.

be very careful what you offer. There is no photographic history of either FB of the German Army with a bullion wreath on their hat. The size needs to be very small--neither man was over 5 foot 8

Years ago I saw a flatwire officers eagle on dark green with the silver flatwire cross mounted in place of the national color rossette..Now how rare is that baby??And in all recollection was quite real..Billbert

Wolfe-Hardin's Chappy ensemble--a piped service tunic with cross and visor (if you look closely, you can see NTZ's drool...)

Seriously, it was NTZ & my favorite tunic at the show. The doeskin was top quality, and it was stone-mint:
