Gerbisjager officer visor cap - OPINION

    Dear All,

I have purchased the following cap (see link below).

    http://klaus-butschek.com/index.php?...bc645.32090291

It all looks good to me but I cannot pretend to be an expert on the subject. Please feel free to comment on it.

    Many thanks

    Hi,

I would live to hear from you about that one. I am particularly interested to have your views as to whether the eidelwess is liekly to be original to the cap.

    Many thanks

Very difficult if not impossible to tell if the edelweiss is original to the cap from looking at photos. I'd like to see the eagle placed a bit higher to accommodate it but that's no proof of anything really.
      Nice looking visor regardless, congrats.

The only way to even get a hint is a hands on. You just need to see of the wear, patina and marks on the lining (if any) match up. It is a gut feeling call no matter how you look at it unless something is obvious.

The cap-band looks dark grey to me and not green-blue. I think, it is a "Beamter auf Kriegsdauer" (official for wartime ? do not know an english equivalent)
The Edelweiss had been put on the cap later. As mentioned, the eagle would have been placed a bit higher on mountain-troops caps, so that the badge fits better in between.

I think the band is just the darker shade of green that we sometimes see. True Kriegsdauers are almost an NVA-style gray.
