    M-34 Cap, Maker Marked

Here are some shots of my new M-34!! Description taken from Collector's GuildD

Modified, October 1935 pattern, slightly mottled, field-grey wool/rayon blend construction cap with fold down, side and back panels with gently sloping, downward scallops to the front and forward sides. As is typical the fold down panels are stitched in the upright position at the front center of the cap. The cap has a field-grey painted, alloy, ventilation grommet to either side positioned just below the crown edge. The ventilation grommets retain all of their field-grey paint. The front center of the cap has a machine woven, national eagle with out-stretched wings, clutching a wreathed, canted, swastika in it’s talons, in matte grey, rayon thread, on a cut-out, woven, field-grey rayon base. The front center of the fold down panels has a machine woven, national tri-color cockade, in black, white and red rayon threads on a diamond shaped, woven, field-grey rayon base. Both the eagle and the cockade are neatly handstitched to the cap. The cap has no branch of service soutache or any evidence that one was ever applied. The interior of the cap is fully lined in ribbed, grey cotton twill. The lining is well marked with a black size inkstamp, "56", the date, "1941", and the faint, manufacturer’s acronym and location that appears to include, "Lago München 16", indicating, Landes Lieferungs Genossenschaft, (State Supply Cooperative/Association Munich)

There are a lot of "Lago" fakes out there, so this is a good chance for folks to see what the real ink stamp looks like. Do you see any evidence of a soutache being on there at one time? With the 1941 date I expect to see one.

                            Great cap!

I understand soutaches were dis-continued in 1942. An explanation for me would be that the hat didn't get issued until after this date however, weren't the soutaches sewn at the factory??
