    Artillery visor cap opinions please

I would like opinions in this salty artillery visor cap. The maker I think is Extra Glaffe. It has a eagle printed in the plastic inside stamped " marke standard" It also has It is named to Wilhelm "Rtarn" The cap has been under the "weather", but it is still solid. It have some light discoloration but no holes. I read on the forum that the pippin is usually lighter on the front and the back of the caps than on the sides and in this cap thats the case. The chinstrap must be replaced because glows green with the black light. Nothing else glows.

    thanks

    Juan

      Hi Juan!

That's a nice original cap! The label says "Extra Klasse" - extra class.

This, I believe, is more of a brand-name than the name of the maker,
which I have yet to figure out.

The strap looks original and the green "glow" is caused by the type of coating that was originally applied to the leather to weatherproof it.
      No cause for concern here.

        Wow

That's interesting. I though after glowing with black light was a replaced repo chinstrap.

        thanks

          Hi, Juan:

Nice looking cap! The only "concern" I might have is that it doesn't look like the eagle and the wreath are a matched pair, meaning that the eagle might have been replaced at some point.

Others might want to weigh in on that (and it might just be the photo). But overall, yes, a good cap.

People must always take with caution the result of a "black light" test... Whatever the result may be, it's an indication only that has to be combined with other diagnosis means.

BTW, "Extra Klasse" is the quality class of the cap ; by the maker Erel, the caps came in 4 classes : Standard, Extra, Privat, and Ideal. Dunno if Erel was the only maker to use this classification... But for sure, a visor collector here will let us know.

              Hi all,

the cap looks O.K. to me it is highly probable that the origonal eagle was removed to De- Nazify the cap and a substitute re-affixed at a later date. It is your choice to keep as is or find a closeer match ??

Remember the black light is only one tool as has been mentioned already. Lots of different pipings will glow under the blacklight--its the kind of glow that should concern you. Sebastian put a great article on this site somewhere that explains the good glow vs Bad glow, and even that must be evaluated. I know that a washed white WH tunic will glow the wrong color, but can be totally original. Check out that article

Thanks to all about the feedback. I will look for the article about the blacklight. I did not know about green glow on leather items. By the way I will leave the cap as I found it.

                  thanks

                    Hi Juan -

Cap looks fine to me - I've owned a few with the "Extra Klasse" eagle - I think that's just a generic quality marking and not indicative of any particular maker.
