There is less usefull information on a thread about tropical Luftwaffe side cap markings because one member felt compelled to delete his photos. An "it's all about them" mentality.

Why leave photos up if there is nothing to learn except who says its bad? Just my opinion...

Richard, this was my opinion about the lost cap.
This is a reason to leave the pictures on the thread at least we will forget this thread. I think this cap will be on the market again ... and soon.

That was a veiled swipe at me. I pulled my pics so that I can deny the fakers valuable information and will continue to do so in the future.

Oh my God!!!!! This is the most bizarre episode I think I have ever had with a post. What have I done to deserve such condemnation and vindictiveness? Is this a forum of fellow collectors or something else... To start with I posted this cap for the WAF members to see and comment and so I can learn. So what happened that was so bad:

1. I posted the cap
2. With almost a unanimous voice it was determined that the cap was
most likely a repro.
3. Recommendations were posted to return it.
4. I have made plans to return it.
5. Comments were made regarding the cap being bad but with little or no
details.
6. Since I am returning the cap I removed the photos in deference to the
seller since they were his photos.
7. Now I am condemned for removing the photos. Man you get reamed
for following the recommendations of the commenters. If they were
my photos I'd have left them up.
8. From an educational standpoint it would have been nice if some details
would have been provided with the comments or private message. I
now know absolutely nothing as to why this cap was felt to be a repro
other than the generic comment. We really need to stop hiding behind
the fakers might get the info, that never stopped counterfeiters
before. We need to network and share with each other.

As I stated before thank you to all for your comments. No affront was meant.

there is always something to learn.
here, at least,
if you want to ask about an item wich doesn't belongs to you in a definitive way,
the use of seller's pics (or a link to those) should be done with his agrement;
like on estand on this forum.
otherwise, you should take your own pics of the item when you get it in your hands.
if sellers refuse that his item have public scrutinity,
and that you consider you need it to make your own opinion,
then it might be wise not to make the deal.

you must admit too that everybody is free to respond or not,
and to give his opinion the way he wants,
even saying only "fake"...

it is the rule on the forum.

even if i think (as you) that the risk to give too much infos for faker is not a good reason for this kind of response without details.
in this case the use of pm is then logical if someone wants to realy help you.
in the few cases i feel i can help,
without giving all details in public,
i use the pm way.
