M38s and M42s-correct wear?

greetings, headgear enthusiasts...

seen many pics of these two side caps (M34s - not M38! and M42s) and wonder at their correct 'by the book' positioning on the wearer's head...

can anyone advise here?

in addition, how clearly is the m42 a completely different cap to the m43, apart from the peak...what should one be aware of to avoid mistaking a converted M43 for one?

I know that another difference between the M42 and M43 is that the M42 cap has a seem at the top like the M34. I think the text book method of wear of the M34 and 42 was all over your head and not to the side, but this did happen frequently...

brendan's generous note re m42 seam along the centre at the top is intriguing...can anyone support this re a picture perhaps? m34 caps seem very small, when they are one's normal head size they seem to need a little pulling to get them on...thats why i thought side worn was more the design...

...so please, any shots of those m42s to show any seams akin to originals??

I'm having trouble finding an original photo of the cap in wear because it was so rare, but if I remember correctly, Bill Petz has posted several portrait photos that showed the cap. Look through his thread "New Photo Pickups" in the photos section.

sure, there's that pic from CG ... but the problem is the guild haven't included a picture of the central seam...if this feature is a known fact, is there not a cap pictured at least showing off this interesting feature? let's hope so!!
