I'm up for it Nick!! Coleman, how about posting some real information and identify the dealer and the source...

Nebulous posts don't accomplish anything other than another post count!

I have been searching for a thread regarding such a hat. Please provide the link for me and all the others who visit this thread.

      Thanks,

There are a few hints to determine originality in Erel caps! That said, I don't get a good feeling regarding this one..
        Dave,

Thank you for your response. I can assure you that this cap has not been chemically altered. I also did a search on how Erel caps were made and the immediate giveaways on fake examples do not coinside with what is found with this one.

Also, a question for you and other knowledgable cap collectors. Is it customary for the celluloid sweat shield to be made of the real thing? I cut off and burnt a small piece of it and it flashed as one would expect of true celluloid.

Type in DAK generals or tropical generals and you might find a few threads. I did the search but could not find the thread I wanted. We went in depth on this exact visor. It has been on Manions, Ebay and a few other places over the years.

As for the cello, yes it is real, along with the sweatband and lining. That doesn’t make the cap real though. There were many high-end Erel’s that came out of Chicago at one time or another. I have had more than a few in hand and they were all rebuilt. This one looks to fit the profile to a tee. IMHO it is a pure fantasy cap.

Chuck, we likely were posting at the same time so a disjointed response may seem apparent...

I wonder how you can 'assure' that there's no chemical bleaching when all one needs to do is look at the sweatband wear (very little) compared to the outer material and the liner and THEN, look at the (green) material left over on the interior.

The cap isn't what a collector would want in a collection..IMO

The insignia appears to be real. Is it?

Also, I too did a search for a DAK and/or Tropical General's cap but could not find anything either. If anyone knows which thread it is then please help in providing it.

                Thanks,

                Chuck

Nothing I hate more than to blab more than I need. Oh well, we can go over all the caps flaws again and again and it will be posted in another year. Take a look to the crimping of the air-hold grommet. See how it is a bit chewed and has no patina on the crimps? There is sign # 1 of 10.

Where is that thread???? I can't find it. I was a shame. We did a good job with the cap. As for insignia it looks pretty good. I would have to see the back but it might be good.

Did this come from a Jeff B?

Please, Dave or NTZ, if either of you are bore please feel free to educate me on all the bad point of this cap. I've been searching DAK for an hour without finding the cap. I did find a minty DAK general's tunic
I LOVE DAK but gave up 3rd reich...

Charles, I am a bit 'gun shy' of educating folks anymore....too many demerits

Maybe the Mod. of this Forum would care to take it from here...

Sorry I meant (another) Forum but he hangs here a bit!

                              Here is its Chicago twin.

As for originality read my 2,000 posts on Erel’s. With all due respect I get tired of repeating the same stuff over and over. To quote another member “ I can entertain doubts”.

It does take a certain dedication to keep after it, doesn't it!!!
