Congratulations Tom, great score! If memory serves, it is marked exactly like the one in the Kurtz DAK book, which is the very same cap shown in my book, thanks to David Bunch.
        I appreciate the confirmation John,

I went and had another look at the example in the Kurtz DAK book last night and remembered that he also shows 2 examples of the LW tropical M41 in the blue twill. The sidecaps are as rare as but the M41's would have to be the rarest LW headgear that there is and in terms of collector perference perhaps the most desirable.

Either way i.e. sidecap or M41, we are talking about something that several serious DAK collectors in some cases have never had a chance to handle.

The stuff which really puzzles me in all of this is the blue tropical HBT items. I have seen even less of this over the years than the blue twill and have never had a tropical LW sidecap such as the officers example which Kurtz also shows in his book made of the blue HBT so is the blue HBT even rarer than the blue twill ?

Collectors do not seem to rate the blue tropical HBT as highly as the blue tropical twill but they would both appear to have come into service at the same time and to have been used in hot climates like Afrika.

Your thoughts and experience in regard to this would be of real value.

        Many thanks, Chris

Really nice luft tropical cap.Not having the Kurtz book, i have never seen one with any other maker than Berolina. I own one such example....see post 16 onwards in the following thread...http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...erolina&page=2

Could someone kindly explain the difference between Blue twill and Blue HBT please?
            Thanks, Mark.

Hi, blue twill looks like its made of straight lines whilst HBT (herring bone twill) looks like loads of little chevrons. I hope that makes sense.

See attached chevrons, two hbt's with luft tress and one twill with Heer trop tress.
