    Red hood for pilot´s helmet

Does anyone know the exact purpose for this red hood?
I do have a theory, but I want to hear your!

    Is it fake or original?
Real ones are very rare, but I don´t know what to look for. Quality is very good though.

    No markings.

If it's suppose to be the "survival" hood to go over the flightcap it's missing certain features...
The one in question is a postwar one..
I once checked the elastic that is sewn in at the neck from one of these and it's modern nylon..

They come in red, yellow and black/bleu-ish/grey, think I even saw them in green.., they come in bomber type and fighter and ALL are postwar IMO.

A type of cap like this exists, but the fabric is much thinner and it fits on the head, not on the flightcap... think they took the design of one of those to create the cap in question..

Originals are ultra rare and besides one I don't know of any in all collections.

          Jos.
