    I know one officer who had such a cap (promotet enlistet cap), after he had lost his sidecap in a burning tank.
    He recieved it 1944. It was his last choice, he indeed wants a crusher, but there was no chance, he also could not recieve another sidecap (was out in 1944), so he had to take the black M43. He was very unhappy, because it was unpractical on a tank. After the war he removed the insignia an did wear the cap a few years on.

      I think most that you see in period photos are M42 conversions/43 hats,upgraded to officer.

        Too bad there is doubt in the Panzer M43 Officer field cap it would have been a nice companion to my Panzer Erel officer visor.

            With my limited knowledge I would say ANY panzer M43 is rare. I only know of a few real ones.
