    Artillery Crusher

    Hello,

Up for review and comments is this nice field cap cap I got today. It's the first crusher in my collection and I realize the visor has been resowed but I can live with that. Thanks for your comments.

Is the insignia machine sewn, hand sewn...or both?

I may well be wrong, but I'd be concerned whether this may be a converted enlisted visor. Rust-color interior, resewn visor, crown fabric looks like enlisted grade tricot wool. Can you feel any holes in the pasteboard from previous insignia or chinstrap side buttons?

                      I honestly hope I'm wrong.

                        Paul,

Yes, I noticed right away the enlisted cap qualities, lining, outer fabric etc. The insignia is machine sowed (a few hand stitching also) And stitching doesn't go through lining. Also it doesn't have pasteboard do to it's crusher qualities. The main thing that impressed me is the condition. No mothing and very little wear except for the inside.

Karl I am pretty certain someone rebuilt an EM cap into a crusher and based on the quality of work I don’t think period done. Look at the base. When they reassembled it they must have tried to rebuild the base too. In the front you can see it and the time you get to the rear it disappears. I can also see exposed stitching up by the visor. The insignia application is a problem too. IMO some rocket scientist wanted to turn a $500 cap into a $2000 one.

                            Thanks NTZ,
What you say makes very good sense. I looked through some reference books and I did see a few capes with that tapering back of the bottom portion of the band. But I must say I'm not feeling to good now about this cap.

Karl, I have to agree with Paul and Nick...

If possible, get your $ back and look for a nice crush cap that will not need an explanation nor invite questions!
                              Regards,
                              Dave
