I have to say, however, that I am somewhat puzzled by the name tag this time. This guy must have been promoted so quickly that he managed to upgrade to a new wreath and chin cords but did not change the rank on his name tag...?
It reads "Schütze" (Private) Bauermeister --- did it come from a family directly?

ACTUALLY, THIS IS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PRACTICE IN THE PERIOD. THESE LAUNDRY TAGS WERE PURCHASED ENMASSE AND USED BY THE OWNERS ON EVERYTHING. I ONCE OWNED A ADOLF HITLER HAND EMBROIDERED CU FFTITLE UPON WHICH A LAUNDRY TAG SUCH AS THIS WAS SEWN WITH HIS NAME AND S S MANN.
