Wasserschutzpolizei Officer's Visor

This little beauty was waiting for me when I got back home from the SOS.
It is for an Officer of the WSP, the German Water Protection Police, a very small organisation, especially when compared to the other Police entities.

The WSP were in charge of harbors, rivers, and canals.
The hat could have also been worn by a member of the Marine-Kusten Polizei, who were basically the same as our US Coast Guard. (However, during wartime, the MKP switched over to KM uniforms).

The WSP wore KM style uniforms and headgear with Polizei insignia, but in gold:

According to Shutt, this would be a second-pattern visor. The band is typical mohair-wool KM style:

The wool is a fine navy-blue doeskin--the crown does not have the same circumference as a KM visor, nor is it as floppy:

The eagle once had a nice gilt finish, but it has now faded to the base metal (brass) and is covered with verdigris.

The eagle is a standard NCO style, so this cap could have been worn by a WSP-Meister (senior sergeant), or an officer who didn't want to pay for the 2-piece eagle:

The buttons are standard KM with the anchor, and the cap cord is toned bullion:

Sort of like the Marine-HJ, there aren't many pix of these hats in wear.

It is my understanding that the regs provided that the visor was supposed to be the WH vulkanfiber type--like every TR organisation, the rules were often ignored (and it looks like he is wearing a sleeve eagle for his hat):
