What is it, coastal artillery? What kind of eagle is that?

It appears you have a nicely aged coastal artillery cap. I like the mixed insignia, especially the faded embroidered national emblem. Are there any signs that this cap ever had a soutache? Definitely a 'been there' example.

Thanks Mike. Yes, it does have 2 small holes where the soutache would have been. You can see one of the holes on the right side of post #2. As I looked again, there is a faded round maker and size stamp inside that I had not seen before. Also, you can see where the top had been stitched together like you see many hats that have a safety pin inside to keep them more closed. Also, it appears that there had been a name tag stitched inside that is now gone.

A round makers mark also probably indicates French made which is very common.
