I like the cap. My feeling is that the piping shade is probably for supply or transport rather than medical. The visor construction is unlike any that I have seen before but as I have said before it will probably take 100 more years for even the surviving variations to become fully known.

It has the alkor or paper composition sweatband which I have seen on a number of real alter art caps...some say this was not used due to lack of ruggedness but evidence does not support that belief.

I would call this a pre-war or early wartime crusher which probably had an almost patent leather like top side of the visor when newer,

My thoughts exactly. I feel that it is either Transport or TSD Admin. BTW, if this is the case, the crusher would be an ultra rare one!! Medical is rare, but the other two options are almost impossible to find! Congrats on finding a real gem!

I agree with the above: since the owner's rank is listed as a Leutnant, rather than Artzt, or Oberartzt, i.e.Doctor, it's likely Transport. Nice cap

Nice rare transport crusher! I'd say private purchase. Kudos!

At the risk of sounding like my usual horse's rear, I think that every alter art was private purchase as officer's had to buy their own clothing. I would conceed that those items contracted and made available thru the officer klieder kasse generally by mandate conformed to more conservative regualtion type materials and patterns than could be made up from other sources outside the "system"....but they all had to be bought by the officer.

I agree with pretty much everything said about this cap. Here is a little photo back up on the waffenfarbe calls which I think are right on. Here are two examples of transport crushers and one medical for the contrast between the two colors. I know there are various shades of the medical blue but this one is definitely transport in my opinion. Nice cap...very tough to find. Well done Phil on your commentary...keep up the good work.

A salty crush ,but very nice!
I would say better for a faded supply or medical, instead of transport

What is F. Nr. 24362? Is that traceable?

                      Regards,

I think that it is a field post number and if is it is traceable to the unit.

RichardP-----Very nice caps that you posted but you will be posting for a month of Sundays to better the silk top Cav. crusher that you posted before Christmas!

                            Phil,

Thanks...very unusual to hear a compliment when your one of the unwashed masses here on the Cloth Headgear Forum. I almost didn't post it since I didn't think too many were familiar with the type and thought I would get chased by the mob with flaming torches. At least you knew what it was and pretty much no one else cared. Good thing I don't collect by consensus.
