I am considering purchasing piece of Heer panzer headgear and as this is not my area I wondered what I should keep in mind as far as types of headgear worn and the variants thereof. My interest is mainly in sidecaps though I do have an interest in visors and M-43's. Were they always black or pink-piped (pink soutache) or would plain Heer pieces have been worn.

Panzer headgear questions

hello,
in may 1940 in France,
panzer crew wore in a large majority standart feldgrau mle34 sidecaps with pink soutache, and of course the black beret, considering that the black regular version just started to be manufactured in large number.
later, this configuration, still common during barbarossa period, was more rarely seen after the end of 1941.
it seems too that color of soutache for the black version did not always match the color of waffenfarbe worn on the black uniform, i mean it was not always avaible for rarer color (lemmon yellow, copperbrown for instance).
my advice ; pz headgear is realy dangerous minefield for your wallet,
you'd be wise to never forgot this point.
