    Unfamiliar Third Reich Visor Cap

I am hoping someone could help me identify this visor cap. The fabric is a gray green cord and the band is a different shade of green felt. The piping appears to be a maroone or bordeaux. It has a standard NCO chin strap with gold pebble grain side buttons. The eagle is the smaller early nickle type. It has the cockade in the center. The hat has 2 vents on either side. I have no idea what branch of service this hat represents, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Some sort of forestry-related? Just a very wild guess.

Wouldn't the piping indicate clergy or a helper thereto? Rick C.

                Hi,
Thanks for the response, this one has me puzzled. Some have mentioned, smoke or rocket troop, others medical to clergy. Still not sure.
                Thanks again

Hi Michael, Not to belabor my opinion but the 1st pattern eagle puts it before 1936 since they were producing the 2nd pattern in 35. The 'Tellerform' style cap also puts it in this time frame.

If one reviews page 35 of Headgear of Hitler's Germany Vol.1 it states "Between 1933 and 1935 no official regulations were issued for army clergy." which might account for the lack of wreath around the cockade. It also mentions a transition to dark blue-green with violet piping in late 35 so, providing the color of the piping is violet, I wouldn't be surprised if it were clergy (assistant - lower rank). which would also account for the lack of the Gothic cross (not a priest).

                  Rick C.

I believe this cap is from the LAPO, (Landspolizei) before merging with the Wehrmacht. Not certain which state though.

Thank you for your reply, I may never know exactly what branch of service this hat belonged to, but it sure is different.
