    m43 einheitsfeldmutze, opinions

    Hello

I just purchased this M43 fieldcap. It is made from Italian gabardine cloth. I think it is an ex statni film cap. The insignia is postwar added.

What i find kind of strange is that there are two front buttons but no buttonholes. The thread used to attach the buttons is the same as the rest of the side flaps of this cap. No other colour. Is there an explanation for this?

    Regards Erwin

I think your hat is original LATE war made last ditch kind of m43 hat..I am not crazy about that style of m43 trapeziod..BUT others think they are fine..SOME LATE WAR army caps are hand sewn traps.. It may be a correct late war UNISSUED cap BUT when the white flags where up..I dont think these 2 pieces where together..JMHO Billbert

                    Hello Billbert

Thanks for your reply. The trapezoid is in my opinion also post war added on a very poor way.. But what about the buttons is this correct for a late war type?

                    regards Erwin

I've got no problem with the buttons just being stitched on and no button holes. Seen quite a few done this way. It's likely that it never had insignia from what I've read about some of the Statni caps.

IMHO, an Original M43 hat (sans insignia).

Sorry, I can offer no explanation aside from speculation.

                          original cap,

Like I mentioned throughout e-mail, I’m not familiar with the so called “Statni caps” but I wouldn’t worry about the fact that the cap doesn’t have buttonholes, perhaps unfinished or last production cut but like mister Singer states it will be speculation, just a nice original cap with probably post-war replied insignia, perfect match with your grey winter tunic.

Thanks for your opinion Billbert, Ben, Bryon and Meindert.

I like this type of cap especially in this cloth. Unfortunately the trapezoid is added postwar and I will probably replace it in the future with a late war trapezoid. If i find one which match better.

Meindert it looks great with my winter cloth

                            regards Erwin
