    Hey Tim!
How are you? (What's this 'Beijing' location??)
I'm still picking 1942, due to the construction and full maker's name and no RB#, but certainly '43 is likely. I've never thought of these as North Africa caps, but I'm just trying to find a production timeline. I have seen one in wear with a 1st pattern, but that really means didley as no date was involved.
    Research is half the fun...
    Heia Safari!

          Hi Mark,

Just want to make some congratulations to you regarding the publication of your study on M40 tropical caps in the french magazine "Militaria magazine".

That's a great job and a lot of help for the collector unused to see such desireable and rare items. Thanks a lot !!

I bought one in the past and was not 100% sure of the originality.
It is a dual tone cap, the visor is not made with the same material than the cap itself. No maker mark inside. The liner red color is particularly faint. The cockade has some thread passing accross.

I'll try to post pictures soon.

          Cheers my friend.

          Simon

Ive got one of these Kern marked caps and Mark has seen it before in photos. Mine is not dated but can post pics if we feel it would be relevant to the thread. Mine is actually worn and has a slight period done modification to the inside liner. a great original cap though. Matt

Man! I loved Militaria magazine and now DAK caps are featured?! Ahhhhh! The best subject possible for me. Last I checked it was only available in French. Is this still the case?
