Kevin I sure hope you get your money back. I am interested on who Peter might consider experts. Every year I get further involved with this hobby I trust less and less the opinion of others or “experts”. Good luck.

Oh, and no one should be surprised this cap from him. He is not the only high profile dealer out there that sells some bad stuff. Look around. The problem is most people have on blinders when is comes to there favorite dealer.

Hmmm..NTZ I posted a similar statement and my post disappeared? Alot of questionable items came from him in the past,he does offer some good items as well. But with SS you have to be careful.

Yet again, we beat around the bush!! The cap is bad and I, likely, can refer 2 BLIND men to assert just that....

They are EXPERTS and aren't members of a Forum!

The amount of crap that has been shoved down gullible collector's throats over decades is shameful....however, even more so is the 'tests' that dealers (now) propose....use 'EXPERTS' and not Forum commentators. I suspect that these 'experts' are the same lot who have been doing the shoving!!!
        Regards,
        Dave

That is one quite shockingly bad fake. If Peter can't see that and doesn't give you a refund straight away, it's going to damage his reputation big time so I would hope he does the right thing here and quickly!

It is interesting isn’t it? Look at the “generals grouping thread” I posted in the uniform section. An obvious POS with over 300 views and only a few brave souls who had enough balls to say something negative. It is all about who is selling it. If that set were on oh lets say Charlie Synders site all hell would have broke loose. We need not to be hypocrites in this hobby. It only hurts us all. The same prized dealer is offering a “old style” army 8 button front tunic with SS insignia as an “original SS” tunic? Lets see an army tunic that was phased out by 1936 with SS insignia? There was no W-SS in 1936??????? Or the broad stripe piped SS trousers that are considered a fantasy piece?

                NTZ,
I agree 100%!! In the past I have been guilty of giving a thumbs up without giving the proper time and inspection to an item posted by a well respected member. When this member realized the item was a high end fake he re sent the fotos to me and it is then I saw I had made a huge mistake.

I swore then that everything I made a comment on I researched to the best of my ability and the opinion I offered was an honest one that I felt comfortable posting. To do anything less, is a dis service to the list and myself.

I am no professional collector and I certainly don't know everything. I lean on a lot of collectors on this list for opinions. The things I do know about, I try to be as helpful as possible since I have been given such excellent help here before!

Well known and supposedly well respected dealers should not be given carte blanche on items they sell just because of their reputation. Everyone makes mistakes (some by accident and some by pure deceit). Isn't it one of the primary functions of a list like this to "think outside the box" and be a sort of police force and sounding board for the collecting community?

OK, I'm stepping off my soapbox now.

                Sepp

NTZ the tunic itself is not the problem, SS officers occaisionally wore retailored versions of that tunic. It is however quite an obvious throw together, just plain bad. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

You mean like the rear stitching on the tabs that continue on the tabs which shows beyond a doubt that tabs were added after the moth damage.

I just got an interesting pm regarding a COA and a Frankenstein cap from one of these “power dealers”. Let’s see what this shakes out to be.

                              Hello

Here is an update on the progress of the cap. Peter Emailed back and said unfortunately I bought the cap from him before he had the Military Antiques AB company with life time guarantee. I bought the cap from him back in 1999 when he was selling on Ebay and he had a 10 day inspection guarantee.

He said though since we have done a lot of business over the years I can send the cap back and we can work something out with other items he has instead. I have mailed the cap to him and I will keep you advised how it goes.

My friend thinks I made a mistake but in one way I think something is better than nothing.

                              Thank you
                              Kevin

                                I wonder

How do these dealers sleep at night knowing they have sold all this bad stuff and anyday you are going to get a call or e-mail from somebody demanding a refund? I could not live like that. Takes a very different personality to be comfortable with this lifestyle. Two experts outside the Forum? What a crock. So if I got opinions from people through their private e-mail than that does not count because they are Forum members?
