    "Reichsleiter" Visor

    Gents--

This visor is/was on Ebay last week--it is for the rarest of all PL ranks, the Reichsleiter, who exclusively used gold basket-weave piping (Goebbels, Hess, Schwartz, Bormann et al would wear this style.)

I believe this fake is by the same faker as the Hitler Youth Leaders visor. Its pretty good, but not without its "tells":

The insignia is pretty good, but instead of a fire-gilded appearance, it is more yellow:

Note that this one, like the others by this faker, uses a brushed cotton/wool instead of actual velvet:

THis one isn't as oval shaped as others I have seen, nor does it seem to be as over-padded (which usually leads to the peak sagging forward):

Another trait of these fakes--the unevenness of the piping, and instead of being butted or overlapped, it is of the "snake eating its tail" variety:

The money shot--just like that HJ leaders, I would not expect a maker label on a form 4 visor, and certainly not on a Reichsleiter visor. Even if GAH did make one, I would expect them to use their Berolina logo at this stage:

Velvet band is wrong, lining, sweat band, to much components are "odd" on this cap.

JC beat me to it - both the sweatband and the maker's logo have been "roughed up" with fine grit sandpapaer. I don't think the staus conscious inner circle of the TR would be caught dead without a velvet band, either...

The beauty of 95% of the fakes out there is they can never duplicate the weave and texture of a period lining. The materials used on these fakes always come short and IMO are easy to identify.
