Army Art Trop OS cap price?

I thought I would pose this question: what would you expect to pay for a stone mint, May 1942 dated tropical o/s cap with red soutache, maker marked by Clemmons and size 57? Lets say this is a unissued piece. It has the deep dark tan color. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you pay more than a few hundred ($500-600) its too much as these mint caps are very common currently, and if its not seen the sun of Afrika. If it just sat in some wherehouse in Europe for the war, how much is up to you ???
If you find a salty one grab it...

I would like to find soutached tropical overseas caps for a few hundred dollars. Where can I find them?

            Hi Bob

Check out P&K Military Antiques, Savannah Georgia. Paul has several for sale under $600 various soutache, some early dates and some later ones too.
Some look nice just not used...

I'd prefer a well used example any day but unfortunately all of the ones on the market are mint; and there's a plethora of them at very high prices which don't seem to sell.

Even for a mint example, the color of the piping is the critical factor; and for what little my comment is worth, red does not seem to be a common piping to find with those mint overseas hats.

Does it seem odd to anyone that P&K has these hats with every color of the rainbow? Be careful, soutache are being added to standard overseas hats to enhance their value and desirability.

Your right on, And its not just P & K that has lots of different soutache OS caps.
You can just about find any color you want on several sites for various $$$.

The DAK only received one cloth cap either the OS cap or M40. Mostly M40's.
All OS caps dated 1940/'41 should only be pink soutache (Pz). The other colors were not available till early '42 through Aug '42. So most of these OS caps were not intended for the DAK but units in Italy and southern Europe. It would not make sense for an Art or Inf soldat to have an OS cap in Africa with the sun beating down on him all day.....off topic, jmho.

                    regards
