The band on mine is quite heavily worn which clearly shows the x weave.

Repro???? Are you guys kidding me? Look at the wool cap. When and where have you ever seen a repo with this quality of wool? I could understand if someone felt it was put togeather but not a reproduction. Sorry! The wool is period!

You're kidding me, right, Nick? Period wool has been used on repros for decades. Probably still is!

Ben, the beading doesn't look the same at all. The one on the cap in question looks shiny, almost like bundeswehr plastic, and has a perfectly straight, manufactured edge on the backside. While the one on your cap has a very uneven, scissored look to it.

The beading on the cap in question looks to be true oilcloth. As for period wool being used on reproductions the only fake maker that I know that used "true" period wool was early Alteste's and this in no Alteste. Janke on his early ones used materials that were close but no cigar.

Bob, have you got an interior shot of that cap?

Brian, I don't know what to say really, we're seeing things through completely different eyes. I don't see a plastic type material at all.

Gentlemen this is interesting, NTZ likes it, Bonini doesnt like it,Gebirgjaeger..well who cares what he thinks an obvious novice with a little knowledge,do I know either one of them,NO, so what makes me think they know anything, nothing. Niether posts a picture of one of thier own SS visors to compair for which I thank BenVK for doing.I thank them for thier opinions but thats all it is opinion. The cap is obviously not a Frankenstein and definately not a Janke I am familiar with old Jankes Ive owned four at one time.
I have shown original pieces tunics etc. to people at shows who are regarded as experts in the field and watched them squirm with the pieces unable to make definate appraisals..thats when you realize all this debate is futile unless the cap is handled and compaired with other originals. For those who really cant tell both insignias are Zimmerman.

Once again, I am late to the game (2-hour time difference plus my morning exercise routine). All these pics simply re-affirm the obvious--this is your standard W-SS contract cap. Its not a "super-fake"--it lacks ANY "tells".
I didn't comment upon it when it hit the e-stand simply due to the fact it was non-controversial (and the only reason I didn't buy it was because it wasn't in my kind of condition ).

John, I think you should (and will) be very happy with this--and you didn't have to spend a thousand bucks doing the MAX just to buy it!

I also like John's hat. The body of the hat look correct, in all aspects and the assembly looks correct.

The beading, on the sweatband, will frighten a few, but it is not the Janke type artificial material that we see on his copies. The plain backed visor is a non-issue for me.

If you took my hat and put in John's visor and sweatband, I believe they would be about the same.

I must have missed something - did Dave Kane make a public (or private) comment that he did not like the visor in question? I would like to see what he said about it..........

Kevin F knows his SS visors and I recognize those he owns in the photos John posted.

Personally I think it's a good one and I'm surprised it lasted on the estand as long as it did. I think you made a good choice John.
