    Heer insignia quiz.

Gents, a generous fellow member sent me a couple of Alteste’s to play with. Of course I had to jump right in and break them down. I personally never had seen a good fake Heer Adler until now. I guess I don’t pay too much attention to them. This one is indeed a reproduction so here is the quiz. Can anyone tell me what stands out about this bird that differentiates in from period birds. ?

this adler is all wrong ,specially going from the body of the eagle out ,the third line of feathers are very bad, just my opinion.

I've already saw original eagle, where body was also 'print' in reverse!!!!

If you are seeing the reverse of the front stamping in these areas you are looking at a post war bird. These areas were smooth on every single period Adler I have ever seen.

That is an early bird but yes like that. Marker marks are many and in different places. Also there are flat prong, three prong pin, two prong pin, three prong flat but the basic stamping is the same.

                        Hallo Nick

This is really a simple but very informative thread

Now, to complete the job...may you share some information about real and fake cockades?

                        Thank you

Ok here is a fake and real wreath and cockade. The fake is the one piece. Note on the rear of the wreath were the flat spots are left from the mold. This is were the prongs would have went. Also note the crude welding on the fake prongs. The cockade is pretty easy too. Note the big difference in detail on the ribbing of the cockade.
