    SS Kraektzechen: real or fake?

    Hi guys,
a friend collector oif mine have recently bought this "wonder" from an Italian dealer who often pick up his items directly in Germany. He asked me about its originality. Well, handling and sniffing it , I could say " good" but I'm worried for its rarity, so....I feel sure you can help me. Thanks in advance

    Valsente,
The presence of the fake tag in this cap would be enough on its own to scare me off.
These are, as you rightly point out, extremely rare. The construction and materials in this one are unlike field caps of that period.
This wouldn't be a cap for my collection I'm afraid.

I've found an answer to my question about the tag on Robert Lumsden' book " The Allgemeins-SS" where he writes that "SS-kraecktzchen" began to be worn from 1934 on military manouvres,at drill training and during guard duty till the end of 1936. NOTHING ABOUT INSIGNA WHICH SEEMS TO BE REAL?

IMO bad, this SS label is ridiculous in this place.

Looks like a "studentika" mutze with the bill removed and an RZM tag added....

                Another one!!!

This one must be the "Kraektzchen season"!!
In the last days I received another kraektzchen from a "recovery men" who told me he found it inside an hold house near Bolzano ( Sudtirol ).
This one seems to be the same type of that one published on "SS uniforms, insignia & accoutrements" by A. Hayes.
What do you think about? Thanks. Val

I never liked these RZM types. The SS-VA date stamp is all wrong.

I don't like the cap in Hayes book either.

It looks like the interior got the old vacuum-cleaner bag treatment. I think Bob Coleman has a few of these--I'll direct him to this thread.

I Concur With Bob Hritz's Assesment Of This Cap. The One That Started This Thread Is Also Bad.

                            Valsente,
Do you still have the second example still in your possession? If so, could you do me a favour and look under the sweatband and see if there is any evidence of the cap once having a chinstrap and thus holes for the chinstrap buttons.
                            Thanks,
                            Derek

                              Hi Derek,
I'll do it on Monday when I'll have the cap again available. It's intersting that more opinions tell that this cap and the Hayes one are bad but no one share with us any pictures of a "right" cap. Does anybody own a cap like these ones or could tell us where we can look at an unquestionable documentation?
