    Opinions on LW officer Erel

Would appreciate some opinions on this LW-EREL. Inside the condition is not so nice, the celluloid is missing but it is possible to see the Erel stamp - it even seems to be a "privat". The outside is actually quite nice with no moth holes.

    Thanks!

I am not a very big specialist of caps, but yours seems good, in my opinion.

It is a mid production Erel and looks right to me. My guess is if the sweatband is marked it is a 1943/44 made visor.

Looks good, however, I would look closely at the insigina. It doesn't sit in the cap very well at all, might be replaced.

Thank you for your opinions gentlemen, unfortunately the stamp in the sweatband isn´t readable any more, I can only read 194.. - but it might be a three.

Ben is also right (respect!) - the insignia has been "restored" by myself. When I got it it looked like shown in the image below - unfortunately it wasn´t the original cocarde since it was in an awful shape and not very well attached - and a vented cocarde without a ventilation in the cap...? The condition was so bad compared with the cap itself so I decided to renew the insignia. If it had been original I would of course have left it untouched, but I was positive it wasn´t.

Now I really enjoy the cap - even though I know that it isn´t 100 % original. So, if someone has a completely 100 % original comparable Erel you don´t need any more...

I actually do have another later war LW officers Erel with the original insignia (reattached eagle, however).

          Thanks again for your comments!

Jack, nice cap, no probem with restored insignia if you think it's been done before post war. Most caps from Europe were stripped of them anyway. Just a tip though, pull the cotton a bit tighter next time.

Thanks Ben, it was my first restoration "job" (hope the last one too) and I did punch some holes in my fingers while doing it
