    M43 Period Hand applied Trap.

As i was enjoyin the last thread showin an M43 from the Vet that had the trap hand applied,i was wondering if any of our collectors member can show their M43 with period Hand applied so that we can all learn to understand when a trap is period or post war hand applied.
I hope to get some answer

Here you go,machine sewn across the top, flipped and finished by hand.

Very uncommon occurrence to find this done; can I ask which thread had this vet acquired hat posted?

              Hello Daniele,

Thank you for directing me to the thread.

I believe that the insignia on that example (vet acquired) is machine sewn.

              Best regards,
              Bryon

I have a number of M43 and schiffchen, the insignia varies as far as machine sewn and hand sewn. Two of my M43's appear to have machine sewn, the other two are what I am certain of is hand applied. My schiffchen all have hand applied, again that I'm certain is period based on the fading of the thread and the correct age pattern to the insignia itself. I have a M42 type cap that is machine sewn, yet I have a converted to M43 style M42 cap that has the characteristic “T” insignia hand sewn. I think this is collectors lore that ALL cap insignia was machine sewn.

IMHO, almost ALL Original factory M43 hats (enlisted man's, with trapizoid insignia) were machine sewn.

I have owned a factory hand applied trap on an army enlisted M-43. They did exist, imo.

                          Agreed Gerard, but Exceptionally atypical.
