          Hallo Stone

          This is the postwar logo DITTMANN used (in yellow or white homogeneous colour and with the “gegrundet 1875” inscription above the hemisphere) on his railway DDR visors. In effect, the WW2 logo of the OTTO DITTMANN Mutzenfabrik was a golden Earth with an horizontal band (with red sides), bearing the inscrïption ”MARKE Odd beste qualitat”. There was also an “Olympia Klasse” with an all-red logo (with white band inscrïption) and a very distinctive lining, marked by rhomboidal sewings. I own an heavily-worn infantry officer visor with this logo and lining. I bought it recently and it is still under repair. Moreover, some models show the logo without red inscrïption and “Olympia Klasse” types but with the distinctive lining’s sewings; some others belongs to the ”Olympia Klasse” but don’t have the lining’s sewings; at least, there are some examples that show the golden logo with red inscrïption and the distinctive sewings but don’t have the “Olympia Klasse” types. These facts could demonstrate that the lining’s craftsmanship was partially independent from the inscrïptions.

          best regards. enorepap

            I forgot enorepap was back from vacation--he makes it too easy for everyone!

            This is a re-badged DDR supervisors cap of the 1946-1950 era, before Dittmann was "collectivized", and became Dresdner Mutzenfabrik VEB.
            These hats all have celluloid sweatdiamonds, but can be recognized in 2 easy ways:

            1. The lack of a black velvet band;
            2. The lack of the bottom ring of piping (common to most, but not all, DDR caps).

            The sad thing is that the hat does have hi-value as a DDR collectors item, if it was untouched. Its on ebay right now, and it will be interesting to see how hi it goes.

            BTW, SHea has a real one on his site right now....
