    Strassenbahn Volkssturm

For those who read German (and perhaps find these tram uniforms boring) here is something interesting which was published in Vienna during the war in the "Kleine Wiener Kriegszeitung"

    Mittwoch, 7.Februar 1945

This inspired me to put a Volkssturm armband and fighting kit on my (otherwise boring non combatant) tram uniform mannequin! Nick

Here's that "combat look" I was after. Tram conductor issued with "beute" Italian leather gear worn the German way (double pouches) commonly issued to the Volkssturm + of course a Volkssturm armband! Note matching trousers also piped in pink!!

        close up

close up! The uniform is charcoal gray, like German DRK red cross uniforms but darker and the pink is bright and really stands out! Its a nice combination colorwise!

          the cap

I'll end my constribution with an inside shot of the visor. This is a headgear forum!!! (eventhough I collect from head to toe obviously!)
Note what appears to be a price tag!!! So unissued?
No sweat shield diamond...never had one... and the liner is a little loose... Its actually somekind of cheap ersatz leather I just noticed! So war time? and not 1930's? which I thought because of the teller shape? I had not handled it in a while! The cap has two ventilation grommets on each side, common on civilian caps but unfortunately one grommet is missing... Its old and falling apart!!!

Here's a municipal rail driver from Hamburg

Here's a municipal rail (subway?) driver from Hamburg. Collar tab pips similar to the ones on my tunic. Note cap clearly lacking a chin strap !

              another conductor

Here's another conductor on the "Omnibus" service (1938). Note light colored cap band with German eagle and cockade in place, again no chin strap, which was apparently the norm in most cases! Note collar rank (pay scale) pips positioned behind the bus emblem on the collar patches.
(in the previous image, as well as on my tunic, its the other way around, which again prooves no standardization between the various services [bus/tram/subway/light local rail], per city!)

                Nick,

I came across this old thread while researching some post war Bundesbahn visor hats. Great pictures of tram/bus/railroad uniforms.

                Stonemint,

The uniform you posted a picture of in post #43 is a Berlin tram drivers uniform. I have one just like it, could even be the same uniform, packed away in a box in the basement of my house. I emailed Berlin some years ago and they said the stars on the collar stood for years of service.
Great hat you started this thread with.

                Regards,

                Gordon

                    Strassenbahn

Here's an interesting photo from my collection of musical related photos which I'm posting as it ties in with the Strassenbahn theme of this thread The uniforms are a bit perplexing to me. It appears that the trousers are black, but I'm not sure what color the jackets, caps/cap band color schemes are.

Received this cap badge today which even appears to be RZM marked. I figured I add it to this thread... Kurt

                          Kurt, nice original piece.

There is a nice thread on these tram badges here:

Trams? I don't know about the female uniforms, they may be rail but the conductor seems to be wearing a trams visor.
