Not sure what to make of that; however, I can't recall ever seeing a reproduction that did not have lining material in the top. Almost looks "homemade."

Probably a lady helferin who found it easier to stuff her big hair locks inside with a liner top removed ..tailored down/up for sure..Billbert

Hi Guys,

This is a luft cap with a single button. It has no sign of ever having a eagle sewn to it. There are holes that match up with a peaked cap metal eagle though. The lining has been hand stitched , but appears to have been machine sewn also. It looks as though the soldier was trying to get to the front of the cap and took out the stitiching. Maybe he perfered the metal eagle. He was trying to bend the pronges around without going through the lining. I think the cap never had the top lining material. Late war cap all the way. The button is stamped C. & D. and the two straps both have the button slit in them. The cap is not a repro. Let me know your thoughts. Came from a vet's estate. Would I see stitching holes in the material. I can not make out any area that resemables a eagle that was caused by removing the eagle resulting from fading.

THe button on this cap is closed the female way (in the picture from left to right)

Male caps are closed the other way around.

Put a nice metal eagle on the cap through the holes that are allready there and enjoy a nice female Luftwaffe Helferin cap

I cannot believe there was never a lining in the top of the cap..
