    WH Medical Officer's Visor

You know you have gone off the deep-end when you buy a visor not because you need/want it, but because you want to learn about a particular manufacture. This is the case with this Medical visor by Steinmetz and Hehl, which I just picked up recently. It is not mint by any means, as it was worn hard, but does have a pleasant shape, almost a crusher look:

This appears to be a late-war piece, as the visor is laquered cardboard, but the peak is still well-padded. The cornflower-blue piping is still vivid, and there is no mothing to the cap:

Decent (not great) late-war bullion work on the wreath:

Interior overhead shot--note that the silk lining is 2-tone, white on the top, and black on the sides. I have seen this on their KM visors (which is what they were primarily known for):

The visor has no cross-hatching, and the paint is wearing off, revealing the true color of the compressed cardboard:

The sweatband is leather, but isn't all that deep. It is the only sb that has been on the cap. Under the trunk shot:

Under the hood--the silk-lining is not unfinished, but folded over (uncommon for TR caps, but is occasionally seen):

Steinmetz & Hehl did make caps after the war, and are still making caps to this day for the Bundesmarine. There are also a lot of postwar BM caps re-badged to look like KM caps, so be careful. However, Heer caps are very rare. Having gone over this baby with a fine-tooth comb, I am 100% sure this is period--and I am even taking a liking to it (maybe I will change my name to "stone-salty"?). They did use this style logo after the war, as best as I can determine.

Anyway, here is their current logo:
