The 'wear' seems to be completely inconsistant...

I think it looks more like poor storeage than wear.

I have the cousin visor hat in wool, with the same skeletonized interior and same maker.

Hmmm...I'm very sceptical of both caps based on these photos. There's a big difference between lightweight or economical manufacture and plain shoddy workmanship. If I were an Officer, even in the last days of the war, I wouldn't have bought one of these.

I have also a lot of doubts with the cap but one point is absolutly negativ.
The sweatband do not fits to the cap. I tooks like an old dip**** belt.

I think the inside could be complete replaced with newer parts.

                        Best,

I always collected WWII German visor caps because of the fine craftsmanship (in addition to the historical significance, of course). Rather than getting in to arguments with myself about whether caps like this were original, I simply didn't bother purchasing them because they were, as you say, shoddy. That might mean that other collectors (who know better than me about their originality) could buy them less expensively (because I wasn't interested), but at least I wouldn't have to go through this exercise every time I showed them to someone.
