Dave--I always thought the "bump on the noggin" hats were also Altestes, given the chincords (non-bullion), and the "snake eating its tail" piping connection. What are the sweatdiamonds on these like, and do they have any wording?

And isn't this the same style fake that resulted in the "blow-up" last summer?

The confounding thing about these (type) caps was indeed the diamond! Unmarked BUT celluloid like...discolored over the years and of course brittle but lacked the "FLASH POINT".

These 'type' and no matter what branch are in many, many collections today

I must say however, that these are much more 'period looking' than the grey cotton liner featuring the soft plastic diamond....well untill the diamond is removed!!

I've never liked ersatz s/bands in anything other than NCO caps. The fact that here we have one in an SS General's cap just doesn't ring true at all. It goes against all logic that a General would accept a substitute leather band.

The leather peak has never done it for me either. It looks brittle with cracks on the exterior and brand new and supple underneath.

Ben - I agree. One would assume that any Generale, or mfg. of visor for same, would want a knockout piece to advertise themselves (either), if you will. Notwithstanding wartime shortages, this seems suspect on this account, and though collectors are ripped on this sort of stuff everyday, I think, for investment purposes, one would want a pretty special piece to put away at this price level - which this is not.
