      Ciao Solo

I'm not an EREL expert. I can only say that Dürbeck's hats are scarce and rare.
The Hans Dürbeck & Sohn was established in Wien at the end of XIX century and operated, as an hats distributor, in Berg-gasse 31. Now it is still in business at the same address, selling military, working and protective clothes.

Carlo, these are the caps that I love. It has been worn and smells of history. Jacques

Carlo, I think it is a beautiful eReL with a lot of character. Some of those repairs could be period ones. In my thinking, if a side button fell off, using a piece of wire to hold it back it on would be a quick solution, so why couldn't it have been done 60+ years ago? As far as value, I suppose that depends on how much you are willing to pay, and how much you want it. I think the exterior looks great and it would be a nice addition to a collection!

            Thanks guys for your appreciating.

I would know what Ben saw srtange in the cap(he respond me by P.M.)

Nick have you seen how short is the liner ?Why they cut it?

What do you think about to take off the wire and put a good one?
            Thanks
            Carlo

Just to clarify that at first, I thought it was a totaly original cap and with a bit of repair work, it would look great once again. But, the second set of photos revealed a lining that looks too short for the sides of the interior, or has been cut short. What do other members think?

                Ciao Solo

I think the whole restoration is not wartime. Probably the visor and the lining were cut because they were heavily damaged along the stitching lines; the black thread (and the way it was carried out) seems to be quite recent; the wire is a very crude way to hold the buttons; I don't see any gasket panel (probably missed )

Also the newspaper is not a definitive proof that the hat was wartime restored and preserved against dampness, in spite of showing some persuasive traces of aging.

Altogether, I like this cap but I think these facts could deserve a drop in its price

                best regards. enorepap

I'm not sure about the lining, but I would leave the wire behind the button alone if it were up to me. That looks like an acceptable 'field expedient' repair to me and it is probably original to the period. I like the way it looks as it is

I told Carlo via pm in my opinion the visor is 100% original. It was just repaired. The sweatband and lining came loose along with a button and someone did their best to fix it. My guess is it had water/ sweat damage or something around the base that rotted the stitching. I see nothing wrong with the cap otherwise.

Carlo, get this cap to Benvk for one of his top notch proper fixes. That glue job would definately benefit from Ben's silky skills.

The Durbeck is a great distributor mark to have

I'd be more than willing to repair this one.

Guys, I'd like to ask a question about that. Do you think it's fair to start charging for this service? I've done it for free up until now because I just enjoy bringing these things back to life. But, time is money as they say and this kind of work takes up a lot of time.

Great Maker, highly desired branch, this is definitely a restoration candidate. I bet Ben could really do some magic on this one.

I think you should as it is a skill not for the faint hearted.
