Original Hat and Effekten Makers Still in Business Today

    Gents--
I am trying to create an on-line reference of all cap/effekten makers of the TR era that are still in business today. Please add to this thread if you see any missing.

The only one still making military caps is Albert Kempf (Alkero), but all his production is outsourced to China.

    Their web site is: www.kempf-muetzen.de

The next is "Adalbert Breiter", and while I doubt they still make military caps, they still do make civilian hats. They are still at the same address as in WWII. This is their current logo:

Their website is www.hutbreiter.de This looks like Breiter's storefront display from the Weimar era:

Mayser made only RAD "Robin Hood" caps, as best as I can tell. They are still in the same location as well. Their website is www.mayser.de

        This is their current logo:

Steinmetz & Hehl allegedly made TR Kriegsmarine hats--but I have only seen postwar hats with this mark. Their site is www.steinmetz-hehl.de

Carl Henkel is the only known Effekten distributor from the TR era still in business today. During WWII, they distributed Feurwehr and Bergbau caps. Their site is www.carl-henkel.de
                This is their showroom now:

The other makers that I know of are as follows:

                  1. Marie Slama & Sohn of Vienna (still make Austrian Army caps)
                  2. Ludwig Vogele, Karlsruhe
                  3. J. Sperb, Regensburg (clothing only now)
                  4. Lodenfrey, Munchen (civilian hats)
                  5. Willy Springpfeil (I'm not so sure they still are in business)

If anyone knows any others, please add them here.

Coincidence of coincidencs, I just strolled across a WH Medical by Steinmetz & Hehl--I can't vouch for authenticity based on photos alone--its the first I've seen:

All I have ever seen S & H produce is postwar Bundesmarine visors--but Wilkins does note in his book that they did produce hats for other branches during WWII, so in that sense, they are a very rare maker for WH hats. Here is an under the hood shot for future reference:

                              HENGELHORN & STURM of Mannheim

                              http://www.engelhorn.de/pages/displa...=MTU3&fid=MTA0

The enterprise was founded by Georg Hengelhorn (1861-1946) and Adam Sturm (1850-1904) in 1890. It was destroyed by an allied bombing on 1.3.1945
Now it is still in big business under the name of HENGELHORN but only sells civilian and sport clothings.

                              Best regards. enorepap
