Infantry visor cap: THE TEMPTATION

Hello, last month I won in ebay this visor cap with yellow piping (that said the description).
Aparently seems good...

If we approached we will observe the fraud
The white piping has been painted with a yellow labeller
Good way to increase its value.
Look at the photo and you can see the lower part of the piping that keep its original white colour.

Just a question from someone who is not so knowledgable in the field of Army caps.

Could it not be a cap that had its piping colored during the period, when the owner transferred from Infantry to signals (yellow indicates signals am I right?)

How did you indicate the piping has been colored after the war for the sole purpose of raising value?

I have tried the refund of the money, but at the moment, the seller does not answer. I will give details of the seller in order to come up to bidders.

If no refund, I will keep the cap, and I have a question, anyone has any idea to restore the white original colour without damaging the cap?

Hello Ernst, thanks for your appreciaton. I have observed that possibility, but I think this is not a signals yellow, it seems a yellow of phosphorescent labeller, see the photo.

Mike, I wonder if it might have been period done. I say this because if someone intended to defraud....WHY choose such a common color? Why not go for the exotic like Smoke troop or Pz Grn?

Hello Dave I wish you have reason but if I defraud with this cap, I not choose an exotic because it will be examined deeply. The yellow one happens more unnoticed. It's only an idea, but I repeat hopefully you are in the certain thing.

Here is a theory. A collector has a signals tunic and wanted a cap to go with it. He didn’t have the dough but had an infantry sitting around. Next thing you know he is taking the magic markers out.

I don't run an industrial laundry but I have a suggestion. Try with a small ear-stick, soaked in water and bleach. During this process you have to be very careful because it is a painstaking work and you run the risk to spoil the hat !!!

DO NOT USE ANY BLEACH! For every type of ink, there is a solvent. I would try something like zylene. Once you find the right solvent, you should be able to clean it without any threat to the body of the cap...
