Exceptions to the Three Rings of Piping Rule?

As you all know, I love shattering some of the myths associated with TR Visors. There has been some controversy over whether or not ALL TR hats had piping on the LOWER part of the band (I am excluding hats that did not have any piping at all, or those that lacked it on the crown).

Feel free to add your thoughts, pro/con, and (as usual) I will give my position at the end.

I don't think I've ever saw a cap yet that was not sporting all three bands (excluding those previouly mentioned). Would like to hear what others have to say, also.

Here is the first example that I am aware of--Coastal Artillery (in most, but not all) lack the lower band of piping:

In case you didn't catch my DRB thread, late-war railway visors also lacked the bottom ring of piping. It used to be a popular misconception that any hat w/o the lower ring was post-war, primarily due to the fact that most DDR visors lacked them.

There are probably others, I just can't think of any right now. Here is a late-war DRB--note there is no piping (red or otherwise) on the bottom of the band:
