    Extrem rare visor!!!

    Hello!
I wanted to introduce an extremely rare cap of the nebulous troop from leather to you sometimes. She belonged urspünglich to the Rechswehr and was taken over from the armed forces. Does somebody have a comparative piece?
    Regards Marcus und Sven

Thank you for posting thei rare hat. I have never seen anything like it and that is a real treat. The issue of Die Wehrmacht certainly takes the questions away.

I've seen them with Weimar insignia before, but never TR--a logical transition--very rare (and nice) piece, and in fact the first of its type I have ever seen anywhere--none of the books even reference it!

Reich weiterverwendet schoene Gruesse

Woelfl is correct. This type cap is associated with kraftwagenfahrer (transportation drivers) from the Weimar era (Reichswehr) and before! Another leather visor (slightly diffirent) is shown in Angolia's headgear book vol.2 p.248, and explained to be used by stahlhelm (veteran units) drivers and I personally believe also Reichspost (postal) truck drivers wore such leather caps . The piping actually looks like its Reichspost orange! The newspaper's "reference" picture is neat and prooves that it was adopted assumingly by Wehrmacht nebeltruppen, but it would be an unofficial adoptation, a non related piece of headgear from a different era being adopted because it would match their leather protective gear?? Would that be the explanation??
Its neat, but its obviously far from text book, not a regulation TR piece but more likely a transitional Reichsheer piece and the newspaper cover picture prooves that at least 1 guy wore it. This explains why nobody has ever come across such a creation before, which is obviously not covered in any 3rd Reich regulation! Calling it a Nebeltruppen schirmmutze would be a stretch... and inaccurate in my opinion. Its an old (pre third Reich) driver's cap with updated badges. Nick

If I look closely to the cover of the "Die Wehrmacht" magazine the caption says something like "Nebelsoldaten" which would indicate that indeed this type of cap was used by that unit and in that specific period it could be called a Nebeltruppen Schirmmutze.
What date was the magazine published ?

Is it possible to get a close up picture of the text under the cover photo?

                    I like it

                          Vielen Dank MMarcus,

If it had been a ca 1933/1934 magazine I would believe it to be some non regulation transitional piece used by a small number of men.
However the date of the magazine leads me to believe that this is in fact a regulation piece allthough regulations have not yet been found. The caption clearly describes the reason for wearing the leather facemask and the goggles. This makes it plausible that the cap also was ordered by regulation because of the corrosive effect of the artificial fog.

The fact remains that, in this case, they used a cap that was allready available,in this case produced in 1928 and probably laying on a shelf in some depot

This caps thus shows that we still need to learn so many many things about TR germany and its complex clothing. Dismissing something because it hasn;t been covered in the reference books (as some members admit they would have done if it were not for the accompanying period picture) clearly is not the way to do things.

PS. if you ever decide to sell I would be interested.

The 1928 on the sweat diamond, is that the date of production? If so, that would date the visor as a pre-Wehrmacht cap.

Love seeing surprises like that on this forum.

It would have been interesting to see what the reaction to this cap would have been if it was posted asking for opinions without the benefit of a period reference up front. I for one would not have known what to think.
