The REAL tunics are in his private collection (now, at least)...

There were 6-7 WW2 German general's uniforms named to Panzer generals including an SS-Gruppenfuhrer (with Adolf Hitler cuffband) and a Polizei-Brigadefuhrer assault gun uniform. My friend knows SS stuff and found that the SS-Gruppenfuhrer and the Polizei-Brigadefuhrer were both reproductions. He questioned the authenticity of these and was told that everything in the museum was REAL; no REPROS. Museums rely on the vast majority of visitors not knowing anything about the subject matter so they can pretty much display whatever they want. And the few who can challenge them are put down as not knowing what they're talking about -- we are a museum, therefore, we know everything. Funny thing is this museum has a curator who has been a uniform and militaria collector for nearly 50 years. Either he doesn't know what he's doing, or something fishy is going on!!! It would be interesting to see his collection!!!

One photo from one "Oberbayern" NCO who was at the Dachau camp from the early days beginning on. This person came from the same German city as me.

What is the opinion on the visor on Bill Rannow's website then?

          He says:

"The visor has been vetted by some of the most respectable people in the cloth arena including Bob Coleman. The visor is not cheap which is why it has not sold yet.

The hat was striped and bad insignia were put on. I have since bought a very nice replacement set for it."<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

With all due respect I don’t care who vetted it. I would not own it. Read my last post in this thread. Somehow we got on the topic. It is pretty clear IMO.

Vetted by whom??? The cap is a fake...pure and simple.

Anyone with even a sophmoric knowledge of Pekuro and the early production (colored) piping would associate the different underside of the visor to the color of the lining

              That's just the most obvious....

              Let's hear from these EXPERTS!!!

I beieve there is a communication error on the statement on who says it is original. I notice Bob Coleman's name is not on the description when I viewed the hat, on the website, only moments ago.

ha ha ha - that is one of my pet peeves too Nick.

I questioned that sloppy exposed stitching on the base when this visor was first discussed on GDC many years ago. I was told it was quite normal.........

Bob posted above so maybe he will tell us if he "vetted" it or not?

Also the enlisted Allgemeine visor with a set of chincords added does not make an officers cap in my opinion.

Bob you could be right - he might have Bob Coleman confused with someone else.

I know where he got the Alg and how much he paid (tremendously less than sale price). I am the one who stumbled onto it and passed the sellers info over to a handful of potential buyers. I had last rite of refusal on that lid. I almost bought it but decided not to. I will say that that cord is 110% original to the visor. It was a direct vet buy from the family of the vet. The guy told me they almost threw it in the garbage until they found out what it was.

On that KZ officer cap, is it my eyes or is that totally incorrect piping? It looks like cord - shouldn't have that kind of abrasive texture.

I would still not buy the Allgemeine visor as anything than an enlisted visor with the wrong cords attached.

Tony it was sold for well under a EM/NCO price. But hey, maybe he likes it so much he don't care if it sells. It is a very nice visors.

Tony, let me be of some assistance here. Anyone who has every owned, held or seen pics of a real Pekuro knows that the ribbed pleating was a trademark of Peter Kupper. This lining had them too as you can see from the photo. The lining was removed and installed back in this cap. They tried to re-pleat it with traditional pleats but you can still see the ribbing. Please also take note of the army acceptance stamp that was blacked out.
