Thanks, all. I was inspired by some of the posts BenVK has put up. My thanks to Jody Beltram for the cap cords and to Dave Kane for his repair advice over the years - it finally paid off! Here's a comparison shot with my Erel "Extra" Cavalry visor:

          Hi Don,
Great looking cap (you did a fine job) and I am glad I could be of some help. Thanks for buying the cap cords-they look better on your hat than sitting in my drawer.

          Regards,
          Jody

Great Job Don Looks awesome. I'm gonna have to give this rebuilding a cap idea a another thought, looks fun and challenging.

Hey where did you get the wool/felt band material from?

              Regards,

Kreager, believe it or not I found the material in the remnants bin at a Super Wal Mart for $2.12! I had hit every fabric store in town and could never find a good enough match - I had bought what I thought was a good match at a fabric store, but when I got it home, it was a good match - for a Reichswehr cap. I happened to be at Wally World the next day to get some automotive stuff and looked back in fabrics on a whim and found it there. Funny how this works out sometimes. Even if Wal mart is out to take over the world, they're good for something!
