And one other thing...Dave Kane. Mark asked you a question. What's wrong with my cap...why the thumbs down...and you didn't answer him. If you don't want to answer someone's question about your opinion of his cap...it's only polite NOT to give your opinion.

Still testy!!!
Mark, has my address, home and cell #'s including my business information...I maintain the same information concerning him.
The concernes regarding the cap have been repeated throughout the thread!
Aardvark, I didn't mean offense. And a snappy avatar? Well, I like my smoking Royal Naval Air Service salt just fine, thanks -- so I'll take that as a complement.
Back to hats, if what you mean by pasteboard is a form of cardboard, then no I have not seen that on a KM cap, officers or NCO (I have had a total of four).
If what you mean is a backing material that looks like this, then I agree. However, I wouldn't call this pasteboard, it is a plastic-material, almost (but not) a PVC type material -- but I have seen three officers caps with this material and have seen two NCO caps (including mine) with the plastic like Mark's example.
I'll add one other thing upon further review. I don't like the staples that are used do attach the celluloid band stiffener. They are simply too new, and have NO hint of patina or age. Even my 70 year old depot-queens staples are dulled with time. (BTW, I am talking about the cap that started this thread). Try the smell test--fetid woolens always have a certain smell, even if unissued.
I appreciate everyone's comments and this has been a learning expierence for me. After everything that has been said about this cap, I no longer get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see it displayed with my other militaria. I'll be sending the cap back to the dealer first thing Monday morning. Thanks again everyone.
Lee...no offense anymore either...and I do think your avatar is snappy...but in a good way. The "board" in your and my caps is PVC like? I certainly haven't taken my cap apart to see what it's made of, but I thought it was cardboard with a epoxy(or some heavy duty glue)infused cheesecloth...hense the term pasteboard. I don't know anything about Heer caps and the like but don't they have a similar band stiffener? Stonemint can help out here. But the texture is not smooth...and leads me to believe it's some sort of composite. Been doing some reading about PVC...good results were achieved in 1926 by BF Goodrich. So I suppose it could be PVC or PVC like. But why the texture? For added strength?
