    Waffen SS visor cap

This is a rather well worn cap, I suppose called "salty" in today's terms, which I was given by the vet who brought it back. He ran into me at a local fleamarket some years back, saw what I was looking for, and invited me over to his house before I left the area. He had a very nice Heer helmet, and this cap, both of which he gave me. I felt very lucky, and was, until I heard the rest of the story. He said he took the hat off a German officer they captured in the Po Valley. He said he thought the officer was the equivalent of a Lt. Col., and he got his tunic as well. He and his wife had cleaned the basement, where it was stored, about a month before and burned the tunic because it was mothed. They searched for any possible insignia off it they may have saved, and found none. I wish I had met him two months before!!

Ron your amazing collection never ends. I am just glad you choose to share it with us. I think this visor makes an excellent reference as to what an SS visor should look like. This one gets three thumbs up.

            Ron,
That was a wonderful gift you were given. Only thing I can compare it to is a friend gave me a WWI Ulanen (Lancers) Tschapka last year

No........actually it is sort of gray with a waffle type grid in it.

Great cap Ron. Insignia is best I have seen. Also, from here in England, I can smell that cap through my screen, a sort of musty, leathery aroma of originality. What price indeed, in the world of $11,000 white piped SS caps!

Loved your EM/NCO GJ cap also.

A honest salty officer! I especially like the high peek and the saddleform on this one. This is truly a nice visor, thank you for sharing Ron
